Message from Mayor Pro Tem, Vong Mouanoutoua

Mayor Pro Tem, Vong Mouanoutoua

November 9, 2023 – This month, the City of Clovis began taking applications from high school sophomores and juniors to establish the first-ever Youth Commission.

Approved unanimously by the Council and supported wholeheartedly by our City Administration, Clovis is excited to launch this effort for our Youth.

The Youth Commission will provide a way for Clovis to engage and empower our young people.

It will help Clovis grow future leaders, supports the City through youth volunteer opportunities and introduces younger residents to local government and how things work.

Members will gain confidence, knowledge, and valuable leadership and networking skills.

Our Youth Commission will strive to be the model of government and youth engagement, and will embrace the diversity of the community.

There is something undeniably wonderful and amazing about the purity and honesty of youthful voices.

We realize that this City will one day be passed on to our children; therefore, we must be intentional about working directly with our youth and give them the opportunity to be an active partner in learning about, informing, influencing, and shaping Clovis’ future.

We are charging this initial cohort of 15 young people with the goal of forming and creating our Youth Commission.

They will decide how much involvement they want, and on which areas they would like to focus.

They will decide on their mission and develop the bylaws. I have all faith and confidence in our youth to be able complete this task and deliver a Commission that will be a voice for our youth for many years to come.

We are committed to the success of this Commission, and we dedicated staff to oversee the process and ensure we get nothing less the best experience for participants.

Our Commission will nurture future advocates, problem solvers, and government leaders who want to return and serve our community.

We hope this opportunity will give youth the chance to grow roots here, so that they serve Clovis many years into the future.

Please encourage your students to apply at: CityofClovis.com/Government/City-Council/Youth-Commission.

The deadline to submit an application is November 30, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.

In closing, I wanted to pause and take this opportunity to thank all our residents for making Clovis great. With Thanksgiving upon us, I consider it an honor be able to serve each and everyone of you.  May God continue to bless you and your loved ones, and God bless Clovis.

Respectfully,

Vong Mouanoutoua
