Coronavirus Update: First Community Transmission Cases Confirmed

The Fresno County Department of Public Health reported additional cases of COVID-19 March 27, bringing the total number of cases to 27.

The new data marks the first confirmed cases of community transmission in Fresno.

Three of the cases were community-spread, 14 were travel related, three were transmitted person to person and the remaining seven are still under investigation.

No COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in Fresno.

The FCPHD Communicable Disease Investigation program is monitoring the cases and awaiting results from other tests.

The FCPHD said in a statement, “These new identified cases indicate that there is evidence of community-spread in Fresno County, but the extent is still not clear. Our health care facilities and community medical providers are actively planning and preparing for patients who have symptoms and complications of COVID-19, but every one of our county residents needs to play a part in reducing the risk of transmission.”

According to the Central California EMS Agency, there are a total of 57 presumptive cases in Fresno, Madera, Tulare and Kings counties.
