After a year and a half of renovations, new family-run restaurant Smoke N Spurs, opened earlier this year at 361 Pollasky Ave. and 4th Street in Old Town, in what was the Corner Café building. Specializing in smoked meats dry rubbed with house seasonings then smoked for hours using local valley wood, the restaurant serves brisket, tri-tip, pulled pork and chicken.

Adding a special flavor are its four unique homemade barbecue sauces that take hours to prepare and only seconds to tantalize taste buds.

Other favorites include a variety of hamburgers and hot dogs, traditional southern sides like mac and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, rice pilaf, baked beans, chili, fries, and seasonal veggies.

Locals Henry and Joy Nunez couldn’t think of a better place to open a restaurant. Their daughter, Kim, runs the Super Smoker, a huge industrial smoker, and directs the friendly and helpful staff. The business is open for lunch and dinner and serves beer and wine. As of now, the hours of operation are Tuesday 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (lunch only), Wednesday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for dinner.

“Friday night for Farmers Market we stay open later but traditionally we’re open until we sell out for the day,” said Nunez. “Farmers Market Fridays we also offer a special along with beer or wine. So get there early if you want to try a specific meat. It’s so funny because every day knowing how much meat to cook is a game … sometimes tri-tip sells out first, other times brisket does … the brisket is cooked for 14 hours, while the smoked tri-tip much lesser time.”

New changes are on the horizon for Smoke N Spurs.

“Thanks to our customer demand, we look forward to being open on event weekends as well as Mondays,” added Nunez. “We are also looking forward to featuring new smoked features on a daily basis, as well as offering homemade sweet dessert treats.”

The restaurant’s official grand opening is being planned for future date.

Smoke N Spurs is closed Monday and weekends.
