Shannon Wentworth has won the 2016 Hugh Goodwin Bar Scholarship to San Joaquin College of Law.
She is keenly interested in serving her tribe, the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians, as well as protecting Valley community health.
In 2008, Shannon launched an international travel company called “Sweet,” with the mission of providing safe and empowering vacations for lesbians and their allies while improving the various countries visited. Sweet completed over a hundred community service projects ranging from pulling over 500 pounds of trash from beaches to providing water filtration systems to impoverished families and launching three children’s libraries and five community gardens. It also donated over a million dollars to community projects in areas like Belize, Puerto Vallarta, Honduras, and an orphanage in the Bahamas.
The Hugh Goodwin Bar Association is named after the Honorable Hugh W. Goodwin, the first African American to hold the position of Judge in Fresno County. The scholarship’s criteria include the applicant’s record of community service. For more information, contact San Joaquin College of Law at (559) 323-2100.
