Clovis Crush women’s soccer player Halle Sembritzki was recently recognized as the Central Valley Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for her perfect 4.0 GPA in her freshman year.

The Kingsburg, California, native not only excelled in the classroom during her first year (2017-18) at Clovis Community College (CCC), she also contributed two goals and three assists during her play in 22 games, helping her team advance to a 15-7-1 overall record for the 2017 season.

Sembritzki said she was not unaided in her academic success. She credits her coaches, the CCC staff and faculty as well as her teachers for their support and flexibility in working with her and helping her to achieve success both in the classroom and on the field.

“I was very appreciative to have that extra support,” Sembritzki said. “I think being in an environment as positive as that one makes it almost hard to not succeed when there are so many people just trying to help you do your best.”

Sembritzki graduated from Kingsburg High School, where she also played soccer and water polo. Now in her sophomore year at CCC, Sembritzki is preparing to transfer to Fresno State to continue her studies as a pre-nursing major.

Sembritzki said academics have always played a large role in her life. Her mother was the assistant superintendent of the Kingsburg Elementary School District, and her father was the vice principal and athletic director of Kingsburg High School during Sembrizki’s time there.

“I spent a lot of time growing up in the education system,” Sembritzki said. “It’s kind of in my blood. Growing up [my parents] always told me education plays such a vital role in life…education is one of the many keys to success.”

As she prepares to transfer to Fresno State, Sembritzki said she is both nervous about the challenges ahead and excited to see what the future has in store for her.
