Children receiving meals from Clovis Unified Schools District’s meal pick up program discovered a festive surprise April 1.

The city donated 20,000 pre-prepared plastic Easter eggs to CUSD, which were hidden in meals the school is providing for pick up for students as a way to make sure no child in Clovis goes hungry during the COVID-19 crisis.

The Easter eggs were intended for the city’s annual Easter egg hunt, which was canceled because of the crisis.

“When the City reached out about partnering to deliver Easter eggs we were happy to help. So many things in our kids’ lives are being negatively impacted by the current COVID outbreak, it lifted our hearts to be able to bring a bit of cheerfulness into the community,” CUSD Chief Public Information Officer Kelly Avants said. “We appreciate the creative thinking of the City of Clovis to come up with a way to continue their tradition of a community egg hunt.”

CUSD began the meal pick up program to provide food for all children in Clovis March 17. The meals are served from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at several CUSD campuses.

Visit CUSD’s website for more information on meal pick up locations.
