Clovis is not hurting for quality Mexican cuisine. Those seeking a nice night out do not have to go far, as a respectable spot for burritos or tacos can be found on nearly every street in town. Old Town, in particular, is home to a number of popular restaurants, including Rosa Linda’s and Salsa’s.

Bobby Salazar’s, an Old Town Clovis mainstay, has been around for years, delivering on its promise of great Mexican food. Located on Clovis Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets, Bobby’s offers a comfortable environment complete with beautiful murals and traditional Mexican decorum.

The restaurant exudes such a calm and welcoming locale that you’d never guess that the high-traffic Clovis Avenue is right outside the front door.

The staff at Bobby’s is a picture of pleasantry. Attentive without being overbearing, our waitress ensured all our needs were meant and that our glasses stayed full. The wait staff’s friendly demeanor went a long way in making our visit a positive one.

But restaurants don’t stay open on their kindness alone. Good food is the backbone to any dining establishment. Thankfully Bobby’s delivers in spades here. The menu offers all the traditional offerings one expects from a Mexican food place, from burritos to enchiladas to tacos.

Our party started off with a shrimp cocktail that was presented in a goblet big enough to feed all seven of us. The presentation made quite an impression on the table and set the tone for the rest of the meal.

We ordered an eclectic collection of plates, from burritos to quesadillas. The star of the table, though, was the Rico Taco Plate. Made up of five small soft tacos filled with chicken or pork, Rico’s Plate pays homage to fare that might be found in a food truck or on a street corner. The portions were also generous and left all of us satisfied.

One of the most attractive features of Bobby’s is its proximity to some of Clovis’s more popular night scene establishments. Just a few doors down from Old Town Saloon and the 500 Club, Bobby’s often plays host to a number of bar hoppers and, almost certainly, Bobby’s counts itself as part of the scene as well thanks to their offerings of quality margaritas.

Over the past several years, Bobby Salazar’s has become something of a mainstay in Old Town Clovis, and rightly so, thanks to their consistent service and food. There are a lot of great restaurants to choose from in town, but there’s a reason Bobby’s comes up more often than others. Go and see for yourself why they deserve your patronage.
