Altercation Leaves One Clovis Man Dead, Suspect in Custody

On April 15, before 11 p.m. Clovis PD received a call to the 400 block of west San Jose Avenue of an unconscious man in a driveway of a residence.

Clovis PD arrived on the scene to find a 54-year-old man who was not breathing. First responders at the scene provided life saving aid and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was later died.

During the investigation, officers learned a verbal argument between the victim and a neighbor is what lead to the 54-year-old being struck, knocking him unconscious.

The neighbor was identified as 28-year-old Victor Topete who fled the scene after the altercation.

Topete was later located in a vehicle at Highway 41 and Children’s Boulevard in Madera County. He was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Clovis for questioning.

After a brief interrogation, the suspect was booked into Fresno County Jail for the following charges:

  • PC 192—Manslaughter
  • Violation of his A.B.109 probation
