66th Annual City County All Star Football Game Cancelled

Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak and the “Shelter in Place” order, the 66th Annual City County Football game has been cancelled.

The game was set to take place Friday, June 19 at Lamonica Stadium.

The cancellation comes as the board of directors for the City County All Star game concluded that it is too late to meet and practice and put on a quality game.

“We understand how important it is to be good citizens and community members as we all work to protect the health of everyone,” said Jim Woods, Board Member of the City County All Star Football Game. “We appreciate all the work, training and years of commitment of the players and staff,” Woods added.

The Fresno City County All Star game was started to bring together high school senior star athletes to compete in a charity game. Each of the players are hand selected by their head coaches.

The All Star game is a huge fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County. Every year, all proceeds are donated to the club with a special presentation.

“For many of our families, the financial impact of COVID-19 will be significant,” said Sandy Chaney, Director of Community Relations and Special Events for Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County. “Donations and grants have decreased including an annual Clovis Gala…Loss of revenue is expected to be about $250,000 this year and the impact on youth of the Central Valley immeasurable,” continued Chaney.

Although the 2020 charity game is cancelled, the committee is optimistic and looking forward to 2021.

“During this time and uncertain future we all need to pull together to restore as much of “normal” as possible. We are already planning ahead for the 2021 game,” said Woods.
