Clovis Unified School District has appointed Don Ulrich to the position of Deputy Superintendent.

Having worked for 32 years in CUSD, Ulrich said his time with the District has helped him understand the unique vision and culture of the school district.

“Along with fully internalizing that culture, I have had the fortune to work in many different areas within the district,” he said.

In addition to working at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART), Ulrich has also worked as counselor and secondary principal. Currently, Ulrich is in his ninth year as Assistant Superintendent.

Before that, he served three years as principal at Buchanan High School and four years as principal at Alta Sierra Intermediate School.

“These varied experiences give me a broad perspective on how all of our departments and school sites work together to serve our students and community which will help me fulfill the role of Deputy Superintendent,” Ulrich said.

As he embarks on the newest chapter of his career, Ulrich said the most important thing is to make sure the district serves all students.

“The challenge that faces all of us, and requires tremendous focus, is ensuring student success for all students,” he said. “The all part is a continuous challenge that, in Clovis Unified, we relish. We can meet this challenge by remembering our culture and the strategies that have already provided us with tremendous success, while also remembering that we are always about continuous improvement and adapting to meet the needs of our current community.”

Ulrich started his education career 35 years ago as a teacher and coach at Hughson High School in Hughson near Modesto. He then moved to Washington Union High School in Fresno to teach and become their head baseball coach.

Now, he said he is eager to take the next step in his career.

“I am very excited to fulfill this role for Clovis Unified,” he said. “I hope to continue our legacy, meet the needs of our changing community, and build in Clovis Unified leaders of tomorrow who will light the way for us to meet our community’s and students’ needs now and into the future.”
