One of the fun things about going back to school is getting new school clothes. It’s exciting to get a different look.
What new fashions will be in stores? What styles will be popular? What’s trending?
Last month, the fashion gurus at Sierra Vista Mall answered these questions and more at the mall’s first annual Back-to-School Extravaganza Fashion Show, held on Saturday, July 25.
“We hope to do this on an annual basis and plan to make this event bigger and grow,” said Natalie Khan, the Marketing Director at Sierra Vista Mall. “With nearly 80 stores, restaurants, and boutiques, Sierra Vista Mall is your one stop shop for all your back-to-school needs.”
In anticipation of the event, parents, grandparents and kids of all ages gathered at the mall’s center court. Around noon, Y101 began their live remote broadcast with Nicole Giordano as MC.
An hour later, the fashion show began. Thirteen DeVore Studio models, boys and girls ranging in ages from 6 through 18 years old, took to the runway accompanied by a lively beat. DJ services were provided by Good Times Entertainment.
One by one the models walked down the runway, while their outfits were described by Giordano. The back-to-school look was casual, crisp and clean. Separates such as pants, jeans or skirts were coordinated with tee-shirts, blouses or button-down shirts. Add a stylish functional backpack, comfortable footwear like sneakers and your student is good to go.
Giveaways were randomly presented throughout the show, usually in the form of a sponsor’s gift card.
Stores that participated include Sears, Le Bella Rose, Target, Kohl’s, Salontastic, Daniel’s Jewelers, Victoria’s Secret, Azkara and Bags and Bags.
“I hope I can get a backpack,” said Daniel Brosser, who will be a fourth grader. “I like the black ones that have lots of room.”
His mom, Sandra, added, “I’m glad baggy pants don’t seem to be so popular anymore. I really like what these kids are wearing. The clothes look nice and I bet they’re easy care.”
In between ringing up sales, a Sears sales representative agreed the baggy pants were not considered the “in” thing right now.
“Super hero t- shirts are popular and jeans always are,” he said. “It’s really easy to pair jeans with a graphic tee or a polo shirt. We try to carry clothes that are comfortable and fun to wear, plus fall within the school’s guidelines.”
Sierra Vista stores offer a selection of popular brands like Dickies, BONGO, Levi’s, Nike and more. For fashion forward kids, there are trends like the varsity look, double denim, ’70s boho, color block and mixed-media. Graphic tees feature favorite characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Disney, Batman and others.
Denim comes in large selections for both boys and girls, including jeans, jackets, shirts and shorts. Popular outerwear is available in the form of hoodies, jackets and coats.
