We’re quickly approaching the time of year when we delight in the sight of a warm welcoming fire in the fireplace. Along with that cozy feeling, there is the responsibility to keep our air as clean as possible.
If you want to replace your old wood or pellet burning device with a new cleaner option, this is an excellent time to do it. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District’s program, “Burn Cleaner,” offers a rebate to replace an old wood or pellet-burning device with a new cleaner option, to reduce particulate matter that comes from older devices. Customers may be eligible for an incentive reimbursement of $1,000, $2,500, or more. There are also low-income vouchers for those who qualify.
To be eligible for the program, the old device must be located at a residence within the district boundaries and new gas fireplaces must be certified as heater-rated. Applicants must submit an application and obtain an approved voucher from the district prior to purchasing the new device. Once registered, customers can take advantage of additional burn days.
