It’s a‘bundt’ time: Clovis welcomes delicious Nothing Bundt Cakes

The moment it touches your lips, you can taste the decadence. The rich flavor and moist texture of the cake and the sweet butter cream cheese frosting melt together in your mouth in perfect harmony. It’s so delicious you find yourself asking, why, oh why does there have to be a hole in the center? Well, without it, it just wouldn’t be Nothing Bundt Cakes.

It’s the style, the creative pun of a name and most importantly, the tastiness of the cakes themselves that make Nothing Bundt Cakes a unique bakery chain that Clovis is excited to welcome to town.

Nothing Bundt Cakes was founded in 1997 by two ladies, Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz, who discovered that one’s great baking skills combined with the other’s delicious homemade frosting created a cake so good they just couldn’t keep it to themselves and so they opened the first Nothing Bundt Cakes bakery in Las Vegas. People loved the bundt cakes so much, the ladies decided to franchise in 2006 and soon Nothing Bundt Cakes started popping up everywhere, with a huge number of stores opening in the Bay area and Los Angeles.

The new Clovis store, which kicks off its official grand opening celebration tomorrow (Dec. 3), is the first in the Central Valley and is owned by Linda Stuve, her husband Kurt, daughter Kaela Yadav and son-in-law Mohit Yadav.

Linda Stuve, who is from the Bay area, said the family first found out about Nothing Bundt Cakes when one of her other daughters brought one to her birthday party. The whole family, she said, loved the cake with the cake and when they found out there wasn’t one in the Fresno area, they began researching how they could change that.

“We were introduced to the company by one of my other daughters who purchased a cake for her birthday,” Stuve said. “Usually we make our own birthday cakes but she really wanted to bring her own and she brought a Nothing Bundt Cake and we fell in love with it. We were talking about it and my daughter Kaela and her husband are from Fresno and they said there wasn’t a Nothing Bundt Cakes here so I did some research into the franchising and a year later, here we are opening up this first store in the Fresno area.”

Stuve said the family ultimately chose to open its storefront in Clovis because the area was a good fit for Nothing Bundt Cakes.

“We found that this area was best for our demographics through just researching the communities and seeing where the development and interest was and there was also a lot of recommendation for the Clovis area,” Stuve said. “This shopping center in particular was appealing because it has Target and some other larger brand stores in it and it is a nice central location.”

Already, in just three weeks of operation as a soft opening, business has been steady, with many people coming in to try the cakes and others who are familiar with the Los Angeles and Bay area stores coming in to make orders. For Thanksgiving, many purchased the seasonal Pumpkin Spice cake. Overall, Stuve said the most popular flavors have been the ones that are most popular nationwide: Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Red Velvet and White Chocolate Raspberry. The other flavors Nothing Bundt Cakes offers year round are Lemon, Marble, White White Chocolate, Carrot, Cinnamon Swirl and Pecan Praline. For the Christmas season, Gingerbread cake will also be available. Each cake is topped with Nothing Bundt Cakes signature butter cream cheese frosting.

Personally, Stuve said she doesn’t have a favorite.

“I am a chocolate lover but I don’t really have a favorite,” Stuve said. “As a matter of fact, I have never really been a fan of lemon cakes, but this particular lemon cake I even like. They are all good.”

What makes them good, Stuve said, is the fresh ingredients.

“At Nothing Bundt Cakes, we bake our cakes fresh daily using only the finest quality ingredients: fresh eggs, real butter and cream cheese to ensure the most delicious tasting cakes,” she said.

While Nothing Bundt Cakes has several flavor options, it also offers cakes in four different sizes. There are bite-sized bundtinis, personal sized bundlets and 8-inch and 10-inch cakes. The bundtinis can be purchased by the dozen, bundlets can be sold in packs of two or three as a tower, and the regular cakes can be tiered. There are also over 40 decorations customers can choose from to fit special occasions. The decorations are placed in the center of the cakes. All the decorations are hand-crafted at the store, just as the cakes are baked and the frosting is made fresh in store daily.

Nothing Bundt Cakes grand opening celebration begins tomorrow, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. with a ribbon cutting by the Clovis Chamber of Commerce followed by wine and cake tasting, where samples of Nothing Bundt Cakes will be paired with wines from Kings River Winery. On Friday, Dec. 4, 20 percent of all the proceeds made at Nothing Bundt Cakes will go toward Susan G. Komen Central Valley. Then, on Saturday, Dec. 5, the store will open at 9 a.m. and the first 50 paying customers will receive free bundtlets for a year (one per month for 12 months). From noon to 2 p.m., there will be a family fun event during which samples will be served and there will be face painting and balloon twisting for kids.

Nothing Bundt Cakes in Clovis is located at 635 W. Herndon Avenue in the Clovis Commons Shopping Center on Herndon and Willow.
