The Clovis Senior Activity Center held their 2016 Classic Car Show Friday, Oct. 21. This year it was moved to the Memorial District Park on the corner of Veterans Parkway and Fifth Street, where they plan on holding all future shows. Entrants enjoyed parking on the grass under the shade trees. This is a free show for everyone attending.

Many people from the City and Old Town Clovis Kiwanis Club took time out of their day to help make this a great senior event. The Memorial District donated the park and shared their tables, chairs and stage. Top Dollar Music Dudes provided great sounds for everyone throughout the day. If you enjoyed the music, you can visit the Senior Center on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and hear them perform. Next year’s dates along with the car show flyer will be posted on my website as soon as they are available.

CALIFORNIA HOT ROD REUNION

For the 25th year, the staff at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum brought together the best vintage drag racers and their cars from all over the country. During this three-day event held in Famoso you will see the best side-by-side racing in the country. The CHRR is one of the most prestigious races in the United States with race enthusiasts from all over the world attending.

img_2637aThis was one of their largest turnout of racers and spectators in years. There was everything from Top Fuel gragsters, Funny Cars, and Gassers to Altereds. As you walked through the pits, it felt like a stroll down memory lane looking at the nostalgic drag cars from the past. Don “The Snake” Prudhomme was signing autographs. Ed “The Cam Father” Iskenderian and Ed Pink, “Master of Drag Racing Motors,” were also their in golf carts enjoying the event. On your walk through the pits you could also see the Art Arfons Green Monster and the Legendary Hemi Under Glass.

When finished in the pits, venture into The Grove and see a lot of really nice hot rods on display or head to the swap meet where you could find a variety of parts for your hot rod or racecar. The midway was also filled with vendors including Cap’s Brite Hot Coatings from Fresno displaying their products.

The Nostalgia Pro Mod Class was added to the event this year. It added a lot of speed, 249 mph in six seconds. One of the highlights of the event was Tony Bartone from Long Island City, New York. He not only won the event with a 5.6 second pass at 247.35 mph, he won Nostalgia Top Fuel World Championship in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series in the final round. This was his third-consecutive World Championship.
